The Palace of Nostalgia

tue 7 apr 2020 11:00 hour
Composers: Artie Shaw | Tom Lehrer

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg.

Today, a Palace filled with music to dance to. The 20th century saw one dancing rage after the other, fueled by both heated and slow, sensual sounds.
Over the course of the following hour we’ll listen to jitterbug, racoon, heebie jeebies, piccolino, twist, creep, and also Flat Foot Floogie – about a lady with loose morals with flat feet.
From the explosive dances from the ‘Roaring Twenties’ – like the charleston, which was called ‘the dance from hell’, or the exhilarating Black Bottom – to Francisco Lomuto’s tango that embodies nostalgia.
With the athletic Nicholas Brothers, music from films by Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, the story behind the ‘Tennessee Waltz’, comedian Tom Lehrer with ‘The Masochism Tango’ and also Jeri Southern, Doris Day, Artie Shaw, Mr. Bojangles, Mavis Rivers, Frans Halsema, Pee Wee King, Ella Fitzgerald, Ernestine Anderson, Johnny & Jones.
All in all, put on your dancing shoes and enjoy!
