On 9 November 2019, there was a double concert in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague. Before the break, harpist Catrin Finch shared the stage with kora player and singer Seckou Keita. After the break, the Aka Trio performed. Tonight you’ll be listening to that performance. The Aka Trio consists of SSeckou eckou Keita (kora), Antonio Forcione (guitar) and Adriano Adewale (percussion).
Seckou Keita
The three musicians come from three different continents. Seckou Keita comes from a family of griots living in South Senegal. His grandfather Jali Kemo Cissokho taught him how to play the kora. Ath the age of fifteen, Seckou Keita already won a kora competition in Dakar.
Antonio Forcione is from South Italy. He is a virtuoso guitar player and has recorded several solo albums. He plays African, Latin, classical en flamenco music.
Antonio Forcione en Adriano Adewale
Adriana Adewale comes from Sao Paulo. He studied classical compositions at the University of Sao Paulo. He also recorded a number of solo albums and has played with several celebrities in the music scene, including Bobby McFerrin and Joanna McGregor.
It took the Aka Trio more than eight years to release their first album titled Joy. This had everything to do with their busy solo careers and complicated diaries. Despite or should we say thanks to these years, they produced a magnificient album.
