Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.
Theme: Angelo, Jeroen, Joost and Wolfert.
Surely, these four gentlemen can be considered the pillars of the Dutch jazz. Each of them has been working, in their own field, in the jazz scene for a long time now.
Angelo Verploegen recorded a beautiful CD in 2011, titled ‘The Ballad Album’.
Angelo – trombone, Marc van Roon – piano, Guus Bakker – bass and Jasper van Hulten – drums
Pianist Jeroen van Vliet, showered with awards, released a CD carrying the title ‘The Poets & Other Tales’ (2008), featuring Frans Verhoeven – bass and Pascal Vermeer – drums. A poetic picture of a fascinating piano trio.
Drummer Joost Lijbaart has been one of the ‘faces’ of tenorist Yuri Honing’s quartet for many years already. He finally released his solo album ‘Under the Surface’ (2017), also featuring Sanne Rambags – vocals and guitarist Bram Stadhouders.
Finally, you can listen to Wolfert Brederode’s piano trio from the CD ‘en Blanc et Noir 9’.
Featuring Gulli Gudmundsson – bass and Eric Ineke – drums.
Beautiful pieces, including ‘Time Remembered’ written by Bill Evans.
All CDs were released by Challenge Records, and the last one was produced by DayBreak (Fred Dubiez).
