The Night: World Music

sat 20 jun 2020 01:00 hour

With music from the Middle-East | South-America |  Scandinavia & Europe.

1- TootArd.
The inventive duo of brothers from the Golan Heights – Hasan and Rami Nakhleh unleashes a swirling disco with Migrant Birds that pays tribute to the dance floor scenes from the Middle East from the 80s. The core of the album Migrant Birds is freedom; to be those migratory birds and fly away. Those born in the occupied Golan Heights (a hilly area on the border between Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel) do not have a passport, but a document called a “laissez-passer” in order to cross borders. Cd. Migants Birds – TootArd. Label: Glitterbeat (2020), code: GB 095CD. Distribution: XANGO music | VIDEO

2- ZUM.
He plays the music of the Argentine master of modern tango, Astor Piazzolla – fiery, passionate and intriguingly beautiful. Contemporary grooves, sophisticated harmonies and atmospheric spaces together provide a new perspective on the music of the master.

3- Andreas Tophøj & Rune Barslund.
Two of the strongest names in new Danish folk music. The two ethnic groups perform with violin, accordion, vocals, flute and vocals. Andreas and Rune show a new direction in folk music, a Danish brew with traditions from other North Atlantic coasts. Long journeys and stays in Ireland, America and Finland have led to fruitful encounters with Celtic and Scandinavian musicians and music cultures. The result is music that reflects Scandinavian weather, with striking winds, whipping rain and clear skies. Cd. Trails & Traces – Andreas Tophøj & Rune Barslund. Label: Go Danish Folk Music (2020), code: GO0320 | VIDEO

4- Maria Kalaniemi & Eero Grundström.
Mielo (Spirit) is a walk through the forest, over the water, under the dancing sky, while the honking of geese disappears in the distance. There are strong feelings and stories around every corner along every path that every listener can think of differently. According to Maria Kalaniemi, this album is the powerful and versatile musical story about the cultivation of inner wings, a combination of original compositions that together form a musical migration. Cd. Mielo – Maria Kalaniemi & Eero Grundström. Label: Åkerö Records (2020). Distribution: XANGO music |  VIDEO

5- Silvio Trotta.
Active in the field of revived music since the 1970s, Silvio Trotta has a long artistic path dotted with plenty of field research and different musical experiences. His new album Confessioni di un musicante crystallizes a live concept, born in 2013, enriched by countless musicians from different artistic experiences but united by the love for the work of Angelo Branduardi. The result is not only a tribute, but rather a true act of love in which Trotta rereads eighteen songs from the Lombard singer-songwriter repertoire and filters them on his forty years of experience in traditional music. Cd. Confessioni di un musicante – Silvio Trotta. Label: RadiciMusic Records (2020). Distribution: XANGO music | VIDEO

6- Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian
He is the unparalleled master of the Middle East lute. Here he shows many styles of old playing, with fourteen folk songs and original compositions from his home country of Armenia, but also from Turkey, Lebanon and Greece. He was born into an Armenian family in the thriving ethnic community of Watertown, Massachusetts, in 1950. Already in his teens, Alan mastered the Armenian dance hall repertoire, which he continued to perform for the rest of his life, and began a wide variety of other musical expressions to explore, especially the contemporary jazz scene of the 1960s. 7- Banabila.
Michel Banabila is by far the most interesting composer we know in the Netherlands. He enters into the most diverse collaborations and comes up with the most diverse music, all of which are equally adventurous and exciting. His new album All Connected is another perfect example of that. Banabila creates music that cannot be pigeonholed – music for everyone with open ears. On his bandcamp webpage, there are dozens of albums that you can listen to for free once and purchase them for a small amount. Cd. All Connected – Banabila |  BANDCAMP
