In this episode of ‘Willem Brons Presents’ we highlight the monumental 3rd symphony of Anton Bruckner.
The 3rd symphony’s surname is ‘Wagner symphony’, because it is dedicated to Wagner. In its first version from 1872, there were many quotations from Wagner’s work. These quotations had been dropped in the second version from 1877, which was actually premiered. In 1890 Bruckner again revised this symphony, at his pupils’ request, but this last version proved least liked.
