Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude. In this episode, the entire magic ballet ‘Daphnis et Chloé’ of Maurice Ravel.
Ravel was commissioned by Michail Fokine, the famous choreographer of Ballets Russes, to write this majestic work. It took Ravel two years to compose his Daphnis et Chloé, and the ballet stands proudly next to the scores of Stravinsky, such as Le Sacre du Printemps or the Firebird. The strength of orchestra, is the greatest Ravel prescribed in his whole career, and the orchestra hardly fits in the pit during a performance of the ballet.
