Concertzender Live

tue 10 nov 2020 14:00 hrs

Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender. Today: chamber music of César Franck and Maurice Ravel.

As part of the Peter de Grote Festival, concerts have been taking place on location in the northern provinces of the Netherlands for years. The Obergumer Church in the village of Winsum, between Groningen City and the village of Pieterburen, is an exquisite place for amazing French chamber music. In 2017, pianist Paul Komen played there with a few string players of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Beside the splendid violin sonata of Franck by Moshe Hammer, the entire ensemble performed Franck’s large scale piano quintet. Both works ask a lot from the musicians because of the length and complexity of the scores. Besides, you can enjoy Prélude, Choral et Fugue of Franck, and we conclude this broadcast of Concertzender Live Classical with the compelling string quartet of Maurice Ravel by the Hermitage Quartet. This time performed in the Jacobus church in the village of Rolde, just east to the town of Assen. All these works are based on the so called cyclic-composition principle. Keep your ear to the speaker and try recognizing related motifs which often reappear.
