Old and new French music.
In memoriam Hélène Martin (1928-2021).
The chansonnière Hélène Martin was specialised in putting poems into music. Poems by Louis Aragon, among others, with whom she was friends. She also sang ‘Le condamné a mort’ by Jean Genet, who praised her performance. Years later, she put Etienne Daho to music, as we’ll hear. She also wrote her own lyrics, the most famous being ‘Liberté femme’ from 1973.
