Compiled by our Classical Music desk.
If you want to get your children to listen to classical music, you’ll choose Peter the Wolf or Le Carnaval des Animaux, but what if you want your children to listen to new music?
There aren’t a lot of these kinds of pieces, but there are some. Today, we’ll listen to two concerts from our archive featuring contemporary music for children. The first concert is even performed by children. The performance features a choir from Zwolle and instrumentalists from Amsterdam, Oud-Beijerland, and Zwartewaal, so a large part of the country is represented. The second concert is performed by professional musicians, but the emphasis is on children. Frank Groothof, a classically trained musician, is famous for editing operas to be suitable for children. In this episode, we’ll listen to him as narrator in Meester Max en de minimosters, a musical adventure featuring the Schönberg Ensemble.
