Dutch Jazz on CD, compiled by Jan Verwey.
Theme: Wind Players in Jazz
There is no shortage of wind players in jazz, not even in our country. Tonight, two trumpeters, one alto saxophonist and a world-famous tenor player. We start with Niels Tausk, a trumpet player who is surrounded by beautiful musicians. Susanne Alt happens to be named like her instrument, the alto sax, but also plays the soprano sax. She has brought along guitar phenomenon Anton Goudsmit as a special guest, so that is a treat. After that, in this purely Dutch programme, I get to play some music by a famous American, tenor player George Coleman. This is because it was recorded in the Hothouse club in Leiden and it is with the Rob Agerbeek Trio. Finally, trumpet player Rik Mol, from the Dutch province of Zeeland, just like me by the way. He too plays with fine musicians on this CD “What’s on Tonight”. He recently joined the Metropole Orchestra.
