The wayward Prokofiev

wed 9 mar 2022 12:00 hrs
Composer: Sergej Prokofiev

A docudrama about one of the most prominent and independent composers of the 20th century.

The wayward Prokofiev. # 28.

On ‘The wayward Prokofiev’ every fortnight we share an hour-long feature on the life and work of the Russian 20th century composer Sergei Prokofiev, who was undoubtedly one of the greatest composers of the 20th century.

On today’s broadcast: piano work by Prokofiev from 1929. But not just any kind of piano work.  It is Prokofiev’s new-style piano work and most people did not know what to make of it at first. 1929 was also the year in which Sergei Diaghilev passed away. Prokofiev owes quite a lot to him, just like many others such as the Russian Nikolai Tcherepnin, with his 1907 ballet Le pavillon d’Armide’ among others, which was released last year at Naxos.
