Missa etcetera

tue 12 apr 2022 12:00 hrs

This hour we share cantatas 4 and 5 from the cantata cycle for the Passion period by Christoph Graupner.

Christoph Graupner composed a cycle of ten cantatas for the Passion period in 1741. The first was performed on Sunday Estomihi, also known as Sunday Quinquagesima: the 50th day before Easter and the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. The last one was performed on Good Friday.
The lyrics were written by Graupner’s brother-in-law Johann Conrad Lichtenberg.
In this programme we will be listening to cantatas 4 and 5.

Finally, we will be listening to four songs by Johann Sebastian Bach, which were recorded in ‘Schemellis Gesangbuch’.
