Radio Romantica

mon 18 apr 2022 12:00 hrs
Composer: Anton Bruckner

An hour filled with Bruckner on Radio Romantica. The shy organist from Vienna dedicated his third symphony to his idol Richard Wagner.

The self-assured opera composer took all of Bruckner’s admiring words for granted, as well as the quotes from his operas Tristan und Isolde and Die Walküre. The insecure Bruckner later deleted these quotations again, whether or not on the advice of his friends. Because of the composer’s dubious behaviour, there are many versions of his symphonies. Sometimes we only half know what the authorised score of a certain part is. In the course of the 20th century, many experts have shed light on the subject. Tonight, you will be listening to the third version of the 3rd symphony in Leopold Novak’s edition.
