The travel diaries of Charles Burney (1726-1814). The journey through France and Italy: Venice. Today we follow Burney to Venice, the city of the renowned girls’ schools and of San Marco and its bandmasters.
In Venice, Burney hears music by Baldassare Galuppi, Benedetto Marcello (pictured) and female composer Magdalene Lombardini Sirmen.
