Composer: Victor Herbert

Today: works of Victor Herbert (1859-1924).

Did you ever hear of Victor Herbert (1859-1924)? Although Herbert had Irish parents, he grew up in Germany. After having emigrated to the US, he scored triumphs as a cellist and conductor, and especially as an operetta composer. But, he also composed a gruesome virtuoso cello concerto for himself. His friend and colleague Dvořák was so enthusiastic about it he wrote one himself.
