Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender: Three major quartets by three fantastic composers.
The Russian Kopelman Quartet [featured image] opens with 40 minutes of Shostakovich. The piece travels along mountains and ravines, but the composer finished it in just two weeks.
The musicians are schooled in the grand Russian school of strings and this is amply demonstrated by their performance of Tchaikovsky’s second quartet.
As a bonus, the young German Funda Quartet will perform Brahms’ second quartet. A romantic masterpiece plus an encore.
