2. Appenzeller Landsgemeindelied

With a choral cantata to the song “Alles Leben strömt aus dir”, based on an ode by German poet Christiane Louise Rudolphi (1753-1811), composed by Swiss country clerk Johann Heinrich Tobler (1777-1838) and known as the “Landsgemeindelied”, the Bach-Stiftung emphasises its connection with the Swiss Appenzellerland.

Musical director Rudolf Lutz and theologian Karl Graf draw on the composition and literature of how Johann Sebastian Bach and his lyricists might have handled this template. An experiment, ironic, loving and serious all at once, it is one of the finest examples of Swiss song.
