Composers: Eduardo Toldrá | Enrique Granados | Jaime Ovalle | Jesús Guridi | Maurice Ravel | Xavier Montsalvatge
In Spanish atmospheres full of love and naughty looks. You can listen to a sunny and swinging recital by Maria Bayo on Valentine’s Day.
She is accompanied by one of the great specialists in song accompaniment, Malcolm Martineau. Together they bring a fascinating program of Catalan songs by Eduardo Toldrá, who was born in 1895, and Jesús Guridi, who died in 1961. In between, you can expect Tonadillas by Granados and the Mélodies Populaires Grecques by Ravel. These two composers were from an earlier generation. As an encore, the delightful Azulão, the blue bird, a Brazilian song by Jaime Ovalle, will be heard. Prior to that, you can listen to the stately Pavane pour un infante défunte, by Ravel, performed by Louis Lortie.
