The repetition of a concert from Beethoven’s time. Three pieces by the master as he conducted on April 5, 1803, at the Theater an der Wien in the Austrian capital.

This concert was repeated on October 2, 2017, in the Great Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam by Le Concert Olympique, a Belgian ensemble specialising in music between 1750 and 1850, albeit on modern instruments. Conductor and Beethoven biographer Jan Caeyers is the founder and conductor, so it is not surprising that this event occurred. You can also listen to South African pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout in the third piano concerto. In addition to the second symphony, the relatively unknown oratorio Christus am Ölberge is also on the program. Susanne Bernhard flanks the Arnold Schönberg Chor from Vienna as an angel, tenor Steve Davislim as Christ, and baritone Dietrich Henschel as Peter.
