She belongs to a growing group of women who are professional sitarists. It is not an easy road to get started on and to succeed, it takes a lot of skill and patience. However, Roopa Panesar is triple blessed with great talent, perseverance and strength of character. She is regarded as one of the best sitar players to emerge in the UK Indian classical music scene. The album ATMA (The Soul) paints a beautiful picture of life – love, loss, grief, separation and finally the bliss of unity. After a period of personal loss, Roopa Panesar wrote the music for ATMA. The music reflects feelings related to life’s challenges, with the intention of uplifting. The album was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.
