The Palace of Nostalgia

Jazz, blues and nostalgia, by Sjaak Roodenburg. Featuring two anti-war songs: Big Bill Broonzy with “Down by the riverside” and Pete Seeger’s “Where have all the flowers gone?” performed by Marlene Dietrich, as well as a remarkable rendition by Jaap Fischer (“Zeg me waar de bloemen zijn”).

Also included is a song that talks about spring but isn’t really about spring (“It might as well be spring”) by Sarah Vaughan & Miles Davis, a version by trumpeter Charlie Shavers, and Blossom Dearie with “Once upon a summertime”.

Blues legend, nurse, and blues interpreter in her later years, Alberta Hunter with “Soon”, Scottish singer Lydia MacDonald with “Auld Lang Syne”, Matt Dennis & Paul Weston with “Lazy mood”, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk with “You did it, you did it”.

The light-footed quintet of pianist Harry Engleman with “Fingerprints”, the Lecuona Cuban Boys with “La Paloma”, Clark Terry with “It’s fun to talk”, and Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller & Victor Wooten with “Milano”.
