1– Jambú
It is the 28th compilation from the Analog Africa label that highlights the Amazonian dance music from the Brazilian city of Belém in the 1970s. Due to its geographical port location in the northern region of Pará state, Belém has long been a cultural melting pot of musical innovation, combining influences from native Indians, Europeans, Africans and the Caribbean. This led to the creation of new sounds. With additional influence from local sound system culture, radio broadcasts and record labels, Belém became a hotbed for unique Amazonian dance music in the 1970s. CD. 2– Gotan Project
With the debut album La Revancha Del Tango from 2001, the French Gotan Project delivered a strong calling card. Phillippe Cohen Salalle, Christophe H. Müller and Eduardo Makaroff mixed melodies from traditional Argentine tango with modern music forms such as dub and downbeat in an exemplary manner. The instrumental contributions (including on bandoneon and violin) by top Argentinian musicians such as Nini Flores and Gustavo Beijtelman are supported by the latest beats from electronic music. CD. 3– Katia Cardenal
A Nicaraguan/Norwegian singer-songwriter. She is considered the Nicaraguan artist with the largest music catalog in the region’s history, with 21 recorded albums with guest artists. In 1996, she recorded her first album as a soloist in Nicaragua, where she reaffirmed her calling as a troubadour by performing both her own songs and those of various Latin American singer-songwriters. 4– Julio Sosa
Uruguayan Julio Sosa was a tango singer who rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s as one of the greatest icons in the history of the genre, nicknamed ‘The Man of Tango’. Julio Sosa started his career as a singer in Carlos Gilardoni’s orchestra in La Paz. He then moved to Montevideo. In June 1949 he went to Buenos Aires. He achieved success in the Río de la Plata and was considered one of the most important tango singers of the second half of the 20th century. De CD. El varon del tango – Julio Sosa. 5– Performing vocalists and multi-instrumentalists Ugo Guizzardi and Angelo Palma have years of experience with the music of the Andes and South America and are at the heart of this moving tribute to Victor Jara. Chilean Victor Jara was a university professor, theater director, musician and songwriter and political activist. He helped found the musical, cultural and artistic movement Nueva Canción Chilena, which led to a revolution in his country’s popular music under the government of Salvador Allende. CD. 6-Antonio Rivas
A Colombian accordionist. Completely self-taught, he started playing the diatonic accordion at the age of fifteen. He earned a master’s degree in mathematics in Colombia and then moved to France, where he earned a doctorate in high-energy physics and a master’s degree in computer science. In France he founded two music groups, in 1984 in Montpellier and in 1987 in Paris. In Europe, Antonio Rivas participates in almost all international events involving the diatonic accordion. CD. 7– This Mexican Mariachi Reyna De Los Angeles leads the first all-female mariachi ensemble. In a musical landscape where songs are often written by men, from a male perspective, Reyna has created her own history. She has since recorded several albums, shared the stage with world-renowned musicians and performed for some of the world’s best-known celebrities, including Barack and Michelle Obama.
