Time for Christmas! No secular hits, but Catholic classics.
In just a few days we will be celebrating Christmas. In shopping streets and on the radio you have been hearing music for weeks that builds up to this feast. This is not only a modern phenomenon, as in previous centuries people also lived intensely towards the celebration of Christmas.
Catholics in particular devoted considerable effort to the Christmas celebrations, and on Christmas night they pulled out all the stops.
In this episode of Sanssouci we listen to the Mass in C major by Jakub Jan Ryba, anonymous Christmas Matins from Brazil, and church sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
