Tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain (1950) came into contact with his instrument as a young child. His father, Alla Rakha, was considered the best tabla player of his generation. In addition to his albums of Indian classical music, Hussain is also known as a pioneer in the fusion of Western and Indian music.
The album Planet Drum (1991), which he recorded with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, is a milestone in world music. He has also collaborated with many international musicians, including John McLaughlin.

2– Hariprasad Chaurasia & Henri Tournier. (14:57 min)
Chaurasia (1938) is considered a master of the bansuri, the Indian bamboo flute. He says he owes his stamina and blowing power to wrestling training in his youth. He plays classical music from North India, but also composes film music and has collaborated with Western artists such as John McLaughlin and Jan Garbarek. On this album, he plays together with the French flutist Henri Tournier. Chaurasia was also associated for many years as artistic advisor for Indian music at Codarts, the international university of applied sciences that offers high-quality arts education in the fields of music, dance, and circus.

3– Ravi Shankar. (22:44) min
On April 7, 2020, it was 100 years since Ravi Shakar was born. Ravi is not only synonymous with the sitar and the raga; he has also opened the door to musical genres such as fusion and minimalism, partly through his collaborations with The Beatles, Philip Glass, and many others. As a performer, composer, teacher, and writer, Ravi Shankar has brought Indian music to the West as a musical ambassador. You are about to listen to two pieces in which Ravi Shankar (sitar) forms a trio with Yehudi Menuhin (violin) & Alla Rakha (tabla).
