Producer and host Thijs Bonger continues his search through the life and works of Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837). Today Part XVII.

After 1815, an exceptional successful period follows in the life of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who lived from 1778-1837. He gets ovations during his concert tours throughout Europe. In 1816 he writes a virtuoso septet. This quickly becomes the talk of the town of Vienna. ‘Did you hear it? Spectacular!’ After that, the piece fanned out to far beyond the borders and stayed a classic big hit for decades. Hummel also made it into a quintet arrangement and Schubert used this one for his Trout Quintet. He likes to join in the success. 1. Hummel: Piano Septet in d kl op.74, Capricorn 2. Hummel: Piano Quintet in d kl op.74, Scherzo, Nepomuk Fortepiano quintet 3. Schubert: Trout Quintet in A gr D 667, Thomas Adès, piano, three members of the Belcea Quartet,  Corin Long, contrabass 4. Russian trad.: Schöne Minka
