Irena Filippova comes from Saratov, a city in the middle of the country, where the well-known river the Volga runs.
Already when she was young, she sung Russian songs and accompanied herself on the accordion.
After her studies at the Conservatory in Rostov by the Don, she gets diplomas for solo performing musician and conductor. In the Netherlands she graduates for a master studies at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag.
Since 2000, Irena Filippova works in the Dutch theatres and makes, together with Hans Visser, theatre programmes i.a. about Russia: about the legendary Muscovite Vladimir Vysotsky, the programmes ‘Hier komen de Russen’ (Here come the Russians), ‘Reis door Rusland’ (Travel through Russia), ‘Russin zkt man!?’ (Russian woman wants a husband), ‘Hermitage’,‘Doctor Zhivago’ and ‘Russisch roulette’ (Russian Roulette).
Irena will play Russian pop music/sentimental songs and sings in two languages.
Some of the songs are written by herself and those are of course influenced by her Slavonic roots.
The songs are from her programmes ‘Russin zkt. man!?’ (Russian woman wants a husband) and ‘Russisch roulette’.
