Acoustic Moods

fri 29 oct 2021 21:00 hour

In our ‘living room’, Karin van den Boogaert and Charlie Crooijmans receive all manner of World Music performers.

When there is a 5th Friday in the month, Ton Maas is back with Acoustic Moods. Every episode, he welcomes a guest from the music world and discusses their favourite music. This time, Sjahin During welcomes us as a guest in his home. (repeat)

Percussionist Sjahin During first found his musical calling in Cuba, where he arrived more or less by chance. With his first band Bayouba Cante he immediately experienced an international breakthrough, but his real success came when years later he decided to focus on his own musical roots, which because of his descent – Turkish mother – are largely in the East. This led to the formation of the groups Turqumstance, Tarhana and Arifa, in which, in addition to himself, his faithful musical companions Franz von Chossy and Alex Simu are the constants. A few years ago, During took a surprising trip to southern Africa, when he and singer Shishani entered into a unique musical partnership with four women of the San Bushmen from the Kalahari Desert in Namibia. In this episode of Acoustic Moods Ton Maas talks to Sjahin about his remarkable musical life story.

Old Roots New Routes is produced by stichting Ritmundo, as part of the concept Dutch Delta Sounds.
