AMERICAN HIGHWAYS #29: NEW ENGLAND.

My grandmother retired to New England, and lived first in Great Barrington, then South Egremont, and finally Stockbridge: three beautiful vintage buildings. All wonderful traditional houses, especially one called « April Hill » where she had an enormous barn full of antiques.
In fact, the house in Stockbridge was a converted barn in an apple orchard, and right next to the Housatonic River, which we’ll hear depicted (twice) by Charles Ives on this show.
Also music of John Adams (Shaker Loops), and a soulful performance of ‘New England’ by Betty Carter.
