Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker II
Today, you will hear the second act of The Nutcracker Ballet of Pjotr Iljitsj Tchaikovsky, and also several ‘winter songs’ – whether or not in transcription. Tchaikovsky was inspired by the Christmas fairytale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King from E. T. A. Hoffmann, in Alexandre Dumas senior’s transcription. The premiere took place in the Mariinski Theatre in St. Petersburg in December 1892.
