Gone too soon: Guillaume Lekeu part 2
This is the fifth instalment in a series of programmes featuring music by composers who died young, under the title ‘Gone too Soon’.
This episode is dedicated to Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu, who lived from 1870 to 1894. He took lessons from César Franck and Vincent d’Indy, but was also a great admirer of Beethoven and Wagner, so his music sits somewhere between French and German traditions in classical music.
Tonight, you will hear his most famous work: the Violin Sonata in G, as well the final songs he wrote before his untimely death.
