Allen Eager – A tenorist who has been mostly forgotten.
In the 40s, tenor saxophone player Allen Eager was a well known and much wanted musician who, after working in bigbands for a while, performed in lots of smaller groups. In 1946, at age 19, he was able to record his first records under his own name for Savoy with a quartet. The first highlight of his musical career formed an engagement at the Tadd Dameron Sextet in 1948. Towards the end of the 50s, Eager, who had settled in Paris in the meantime, went more and more into the background. In this episode, recordings from his first succesful period.
