The three Lorraine dioceses Metz, Toul and Verdun all have their own connection to Gregorian Chant. Metz was an important centre from where Gregorian Chant was actually spread out. Toul was the seat of the bishop, composer and later Pope Leo IX. Verdun is the place where the most ancient manuscript of Eastern Frankish Gregorian Chant originates from.
