Mary Lou Williama (1910-1981) started out as a pianist in a band accompanying a revue, but soon got down to the real thing.
That was back in 1929 when she joined Andy Kirk’s band in Kansas City. Her qualities were immediately noticed, not only as a pianist, but especially as an arranger. She performed so well that the record company demanded that she become the regular pianist of Kirk’s band.
