Maite Hontelé in concert during the Houtfestival in Haarlem on 16 June 2013.
This year, the Houtfestival was held on Sunday 16 June, and for the first concert we broadcast the performance of Maite Hontelé, a trumpet player from Utrecht.
Maite Hontelé grew up with music; at her home mostly salsa and son music was played. As a young girl, she became completely sold to these warm South American sounds, and went to study latin and jazz at the Rotterdam conservatory.
After finishing her studies, she went on tour with Musica Cubana (Buena Vista Social Club). She and her band play a mix of Colombian folklore, salsa and latin-jazz.
During the past year, she played music with Ruben Blades, Yuri Buenaventura, Issac Delgado, Oscar D’Leon and others.
The band is made up by:
Maite Hontelé – trumpet
Yumaria Grijt – vocals
Marc Bischoff – piano
Gerardo Rosales – conga drums
Daniel Hahnfeld – timbales
