Malian diva Fatoumata Diawara in live concert.
Tonight in Concertzender Live you will hear Fatoumata Diawara, who performed at the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof during the International Amersfoort Jazz Festival on 12 May 2012.
Fatoumata Diawara, is a Malian singer who has become famous worldwide since her first CD, not least in her homeland through all the political developments.
First she played parts in films, then she played in a theatre company in Paris and toured around the world.
She met Cheikh Tidiane Seck; a famous Malian musician and producer. He brought her back to Mali and there she sang as a background singer with American jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater and Malian singer Oumou Sangaré. After these successes Fatoumata completely set herself to her own songs and made demos to which she not only sang, but also played guitar, percussion and bass. Oumou Sangaré provided Fatoumata her first record deal at World Circuit: the CD Fatou was released and became no. 1 in the World Music Charts in 2011.
During this concert she is accompanied on guitar by Martin Grenier, Jean Baptiste Gbadoe, drums and percussion, Jean Alain Hohy on bass and Corine Thuy vocals.
