Bassekou Kouyaté & N’goni Ba and Tamikrest.

Bassekou Kouyaté

Today in Concertzender Live, the Sahara Soul Concert, given by Bassekou Kouyaté and N’Goni Ba and Tamikrest. This concert was on 31 January 2013 in Rasa Utrecht.
Sahara Soul brought a tribute to Mali, which is been afflicted by a devastating instability. Two contemporary groups share the stage to let people hear a solidary sound from the musically rich West-African country: Bassekou Kouyate & N’goni Ba and Tamikrest.

Bassekou comes from South Mali and is rooted in the Mamana tradition. Worldwide, he is known for rocking on the old instrument the ngoni, the predecer of the banjo. His wife Amy Sacko adds to that her impelling voice.

In the second part of the Sahara Soul Concert, you will listen to Tamikrest.
The Toearegs of Tamikrest are from the north of the Sahara, against the border with Algeria.
Their hypnotic blues is inextricably bound with a revolutionary spirit. Singer-songwriter Sidi Touré is from Gao and fuses Songhai folk songs with critical and magic-realistic stories.
