Concert of singer and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré recorded on 22 November 2013 at Rasa, Utrecht.
Vieux Farka Touré was born in 1981 in Niafunké, Mali as the son of well known blues singer and guitarist Ali Farka Touré. Even though father Ali tried to discourage him from being a musician, Vieux secretly learned how to play the guitar and enrolled at the Institut National des Arts in Bamako, Mali. Eventually, Vieux received his father’s blessing to continue on with his music, aided by a family friend, kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté.
In 2007, his first album ‘Vieux Farka Touré’ was released by World Village. On this album, Toumani Diabaté and Ali Farka Touré also make a appearance. Later, Ali Farka Touré was weakened due to bad health and the recordings on Vieux’s debut CD, are one of his last ones.
Nowadays, Vieux Farka Touré has released 10 albums, including two with the Touré – Raichel Collective.
