Chouk Bwa Libète is a Haitian band and plays traditional roots music, in Kreyòl language called ‘mizik rasin’.
The band’s name literally means ‘trunk of the tree of freedom’.
The ‘mizik rasin’ genre developed in the 1970s when Haitian musicians went back to the roots of voodoo culture.
The music’s core is in the essential elements of Haitian voodoo: rhythm, song and dance.
