Eleven years after his death Andrea Parodi (18 July 1966 – 17 October 2006) is still worshipped, both on the island where he was born, Sardinia, as in the rest of Italy. He was blessed with a beautiful high voice, which always sounded in tune and sincere. His breakthrough happened at the end of the 1980’s with the group Tazenda, which mixed Sardinian folk music with Italian pop and rock. After he had left this band in 1997, he studied folk music and made name with diverse solo albums and collaboration projects, a.o. with the American jazz guitarist Al Di Meola.
Andrea Parodi passed away in 2006, he was only 51 years old. To honour his musical legacy, every autumn the Premio Andrea Parodi is held in a theatre in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia.
During three evenings ten selected artists and groups presented their versions of songs by Andrea Parodi as well as their own songs. A professional jury, Concertzender employee Bas Springer is one of them, judged which artist or group did so the best.
