Schubert: lied recital, and Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18/4
In this broadcast with recordings made by Concertzender, we’re again surprised by an impressive lied recital, and again by composer Franz Schubert. Tenor Christoph Prégardien made a well-considered choice from the oeuvre of the great lied composer, and he opted for the melancholic, introvert repertoire. He sings well-known compositions such as Der Tod und das Mädchen and Du bißt die Ruh, accompanied by Julius Drake on the piano. These are the two songs that Schubert also used in a quartet, and in elaborate variations for violin and piano. The recital ends with the attractive song Ein Winterabend, hopefully an appropriate finale on this 18th of December. The famous lied Ständchen is the encore of the recital, and the encore of the entire programme of this afternoon is String Quartet Op. 18 No.4 of Beethoven, by the Dutch Matangi Quartet.
