Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender.
Chamber music by Claude Debussy.
2018 was the year of Debussy. In this episode of Concertzender Live Classical, you can listen to recordings from two concerts of that year that took place as part of the Peter the Great Festival. Our regular listeners will know this means the Concertzender’s microphones are placed in the north of the country. We’ll meet the creme-de-la-creme of the big orchestras from the west of the country armed to their teeth at the farm Onder de Linden, located at the Zuiderdiep in Valthermond. This is the previous home of Rian de Waal of the abbey church in Aduard, located just above the city of Groningen.
In the first part, you’ll listen to music inspired by statues from the classical world: antique epigraphs of the game of Pan the faun. Bilitis’ songs are presented and framed by the notes of Debussy.
In the second part, you’ll hear the beautiful cello sonata by Harro Ruijsenaars; Paul Koomen accompanies him.
Finally, we have Debussy’s string quartet. This glorious piece was his breakthrough as a composer. It was performed by the Hermitage String quartet.
