Concertzender World music live: La Ciapa Rusa – Diario di Bordo, Live in Folkermesse Casale Monferrato 12-07-2003
Due to COVID-19, Concertzender cannot give you any new recordings. We’re trying to keep true to our programme by featuring official CD or DVD recordings. Today, we’ll listen to the reunion concert of the North Italian band ‘Le Ciapa Rusa’; almost all of the previous members will play some songs to play their repertoire in chronological order. This will vary from the strictly acoustic first line-up with the founders of the band – and the permanent members – Maurizio Martinotti (hurdy-gurdy, vocals) and Beppe Greppi (diatonic button accordion, keys and vocals) to the big band formation, who, under the name of ‘Le Vija’, played a few shows and recorded a CD. During their childhood, Martinotti and Greppi would wander through the valleys and mountains of the so-called four provinces in North Italy to draw up authentic material of the almost lost melodies and songs. They translated that to the revival principles of that time to create their own sound. They have earned their reputation by collecting, performing, and especially by stimulating young Italian musicians to make music by drawing from their own cultural heritage. Their sound got more and more sophisticated as the years went on, and after twenty years, there were no more things to do with the band. It would take another five years before ‘La Ciapa Rusa’ said goodbye. They did that after performing on the 20th edition of the Folkermesse Festival in their home base Casale Monferrato, 25 years after the band was founded.
