Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender

In this episode we share truly magnificent chamber music with live-recordings. Four gems from western music history.

Dvořák represents the lighter tone with his Bagatelles. The salon music shines through and the music is entertaining. Brahms was also capable of this, though his piano quintet is more serious business. Don’t be mistaken, this piece contains drama and substance, and is musically crafted in a sophisticated style. The same definitely goes for the violin sonata by César Franck. He also used the so-called cyclic form: a few themes and motives form the foundation for all four parts of the piece. We also find this, to a limited extent, in Ravel’s string quartet. Which is certainly one of the best-loved and most clever works of its genre.
