Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender
Today’s Concertzender Live Classical is filled with six remarkable chamber music pieces. Known stunners are of course the clarinet quintet of Mozart by Frank van der Brink, solo clarinettist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and his colleagues in the Van Swieten Society. They are musicians who also play for the radio, but in the Van Swieten Society they play old instruments, or copies of them. With Bart van Oort at the fortepiano, they also play Mozart’s glorious piano quartet in G minor.
In the beautiful ballad Der Hirt auf dem Felsen by Schubert, the clarinet is also the soloist, alongside the soprano of course. Alan Kay plays the clarinet, and Katherine Dowling accompanies him and soprano Wonjung Kim.
The Rush Quartet can be heard in unknown early work by Tchaikovsky.
The programme concludes with a small section of Ravel’s First Violin Sonata – a piece from his youth – by Eva Stegeman and Ilona Timchenko. We will close with his incredibly exciting, large sonata for violin and cello, by Floor LeCoultre and Will McLeish.
