Kimi Djabaté is a giften balafon player, singer and guitarist from Guinea-Bissau. His first three albums followed the traditions of his family and ancestors. On his fourth and latest album ‘Dindin’, Kimi has embarked on a new path. Here, he openly sings about themes such as child labour, forced marriages, domestic violence, and women’s rights. In addition to these bolder themes, he has also become more relaxed in his musical style. He blends traditional Afro-Portuguese rhythms with Afrobeat grooves, electric desert blues, and references to Afro-Latin swing, creating a unique and energetic sound of his own.
