Variations.
The form of variation is a constant in instrumental music. Bach created one of the highlights of his oeuvre with the Goldberg Variations, Mozart used his series of variations as parade numbers, and the Romanticism was soaked with character variations. Some twentieth-century composers also used the form of variation.
