Episode #5: Ben Schröder. A podcast about Jazz with colourful guests and swinging music by Ben van den Dungen
Art Blakey once said: “jazz has to be danceable and has to have the blues”. Dancing and the blues is a podcast about jazz. Jazz musicians Ben van den Dungen, Tom Ridderbeekx and Thijs Nissen, receive colourful guests with tall stories, intense conversations and a large dose of swinging music. A look behind the scenes of the fine fleur of the (inter)national jazz top, with live performances from our studio!
He said: “We played Stones and Beatles until I heard jazz at my sister’s place (Miles Duke Coltrane etc.) I was sold at once, bought a stereo system with big speakers and a drum kit, and started playing along with records. I then gradually found myself performing with more and more great and some not so great musicians at many venues (too many to mention).”
Ben Schröder was the regular drummer of the Hein van der Gaag trio and performed with Rob Agerbeek, Gijs Hendriks, Peter Guidi, Harry Verbeke and Ruud Brink for years.
Ben Schröder performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival several times with Teddy Edwards, Benny Bailey and Miroslav Vitous. Ben has toured internationally in Norway, Yugoslavia, Switzerland and Jamaica, among others.
Since 2011, he is leading his own group “Vintage Jazz Sextet”.
