The album How Can I Sleep by the band Cordelia’s Dad
In this episode of Disc Cover we choose for How Can I Sleep, the second album by the American band Cordelia’s Dad. After their untitled debut, where you can find powerful and wayward arrangements from Anglo-American songs, is How Can I Sleep their first album with a mix of their own songs and arrangements of traditionals. Including some very well-known traditions such as Delia, Shallow Brown and Little Margaret, an Americanized version of the British Matty Groves. The performance varies from acoustic to heavy punk rock. The duality is the further basis for the American band. The band develops into a more acoustic setting on later albums. Some replacing of band members follow before the band decide to quit around the turn of the century. Some reunions follow and there is even some new material. Front man Tim Eriksen pursued a career as a solo musician and became an authority in the field of shape note singing. He is a certified investigator of dusty books and reference books where he takes out surprising songs or variations to known songs. Recently a collaboration album with Eliza Carthy appeared. We will play some songs from that album. This album is also characterized by duality, for which the origin lies in the album How Can I Sleep.
