The album ‘Gitans’ by Thierry Robin.
The album cover of ‘Gitans’
Once again a dusted album in Disc-Cover. This time one from the digital age because Gitans by Thierry Robin was released in 1993. It was the first eclectic album containing music based on gypsy traditions. Not the gypsy music by Tata Mirando or the jazzy Hot Club de France sounds by Django Reinhardt but Robin’s quest led him to Rajastan and passing Eastern Europe to Eastern Spain and the flamenco. On ‘Gitans’, Robin plays the guitar, bouzouki and lute but lets himself be surrounded by only the best gypsy musicians. The album turned out to be the first of an entire series and certainly an album that stimulated the interest in the authentic and unpolished Roma and Sinti music.
