Interesting albums from the folk and roots music history, with Marius Roeting
The album ‘The Lewis Blue’ from Scottish singer-guitarist Ivan Drever was released in 1998. He made the album together with fiddler Duncan Chisholm, his then music partner (who is a violinist in today’s Julie Fowlis band). It turned out to be one of the most intimate albums by Drever and Chisholm: quiet, somewhat melancholic yet strong songs, performed acoustical.
Drever and Chisholm formed a successful duo in that period, even though they were both still a part of the Scottish folk rock group Wolfstone (listen here to another episode we did on their album ‘The half tale’).
After ‘The Lewis Blue’ album, Drever left the band to continue his solo career. He had started out in The Knowe O’Deil Band on the Orkney Islands, and then released some albums under his own name, often contributed by Wolfstone. Drever is still active as a musician locally. His most recent album ‘Dreev’ was released in 2023.
